Terpel to donate all the fuel needed to transport more than 108,000 tons of food to towns in Colombia

27 Mar, 2020

  • With this donation, the Association of Food Banks of Colombia (Abaco) can move more than 1,800 tons of food per day for two months.
  • The initiative will benefit more than 690,000 people in vulnerable situations across the nation.
  • Terpel also joined the ANDI's UNIDOS SOMOS MÁS PAÍS campaign to support production of the mechanical ventilators needed to treat patients with respiratory complications from COVID-19.
  • The company is involved in other initiatives to benefit transporters, vulnerable population groups, and medical personnel.

Terpel will donate all the fuel the Association of Food Banks of Colombia (Abaco) needs to take more than 108,000 tons of food to the country's most vulnerable population groups during the stay-at-home measures decreed by the President of the Republic to control the spread of COVID-19.

The fuel and lubricants distributor will donate close to 34,000 gallons of diesel, 5,000 gallons of regular gasoline, and 6,000 m³ of CNG. The fuel will be used to transport 1,800 tons of food per day to vulnerable population groups in cities such as Barranquilla, Bogota, Bucaramanga, Cali, Cartago, Cucuta, Ibague, Manizales, Medellin, Monteria, Neiva, Pasto, Pereira, Riohacha, Santa Marta, Sincelejo and Villavicencio.

“In times that are hard for everyone, like this one that we never imagined would come, we need to work together in coordination to enhance the impact of our actions. As a Country Partner, Terpel is promoting a series of initiatives that make us part of the solution to the problems caused by COVID-19, by mobilizing programs that have an impact on vulnerable population groups and by accelerating the actions of government institutions and civil society," indicated Sylvia Escovar, President of Organización Terpel.

To do this, Terpel installed a digital system in all of Abaco's cargo vehicles, so the truck’s gas tanks can be filled for free at participating service stations.

Other initiatives the company is currently pursuing as a Country Partner to meet needs in Colombia, are:

Joining the ANDI initiative to deliver 2,000 ventilators:

Terpel joined the Unidos Somos Más País (Together we’re a Greater Country) campaign, promoted by the ANDI to donate specific resources to the InnspiraMED Initiative. The goal of this initiative is to raise funds to produce 2,000 mechanical ventilators for treating COVID-19 patients. Research and Data in SP Global.

Well being for transporters:

Truck drives are heroes who are keeping Colombia moving. Their work has made it possible for the country to stay supplied with needed provisions during the quarantine.

Altoque stores will keep their doors open, as regulations allow, so that truck drivers will have access to any products they might need. In addition, in recognition of their hard work, at several Altoque stores located on the country's highways, Terpel will offer hot soup and coffee to go, and access to free showers. Truck drivers can locate the stores participating in this initiative at http://altoqueterpel.com/heroesaltoque/.

Altoque Solidarity Menu:

In partnership with Rappi, Altoque convenience stores will deliver fast food combos to vulnerable population groups. For each combo meal donated by Altoque users using the Rappi app, Terpel will donate an additional meal.

The company will also take care of the transportation and logistics for delivering the food. That way, the businesses participating in the Solidarity Menu initiative will be able to get the food to their beneficiaries.

Support for the Civil Air Patrol:

Terpel will donate fuel to Satena airline for the transportation of humanitarian aid, food, and medical supplies to remote areas of the country.

It will also donate the fuel for the Civil Air Patrol to make flights and deliver kits with protective gear (gloves, facemasks, and respirators) to doctors in 15 municipalities in the Pacific region.

Donation to Satena:

Terpel will donate fuel to Satena airline for the transportation of humanitarian aid, food, and medical supplies to remote areas of the country.

Terpel Foundation supports education through social media:

The Terpel Foundation designed a plan to help parents reinforce their children’s skills in mathematics, language arts, and leadership, through the educational content on its social media. In addition, as part of its commitment to improving the quality of education in Colombia, the Foundation will support the Colombia Aprende platform. This platform, developed by the National Ministry of Education, has more than 80,000 content segments in video, audio, and text, including teachers’ guides.

The beneficiaries of the Foundation’s different programs can also access virtual workshops as part of the current programs underway.
