For the fifth consecutive year, Terpel is recognized as one of the world’s most sustainable companies

08 Feb, 2021

  • Terpel was included in the Sustainability Yearbook 2021, the world's most important publication in the area of sustainability. The company’s sustainability was recognized as outstanding, placing it among the 15 most sustainable companies on the planet.
  • Only 14 Colombian companies classified for the Sustainability Yearbook, and Terpel is the country’s only representative in the retail sector.

For the fifth consecutive year, Terpel has been included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Yearbook, the world’s best-recognized and most complete publication on corporate sustainability.

The company's best practices in the dimensions analyzed by the report – economic, environmental, and social – were key to being included once again on this list. This time, the company was ranked number 14 among the 116 evaluated in the retail sector, standing out as one of the 15 companies worldwide with the best practices in sustainability.

In this most recent measurement, Terpel improved its score in all categories, putting in evidence its high standards and continuous improvement processes. The company also stood out by exceeding the average score of other companies in the industry by 34 points.

“We are proud to be a member of this select group recognized for their excellent environmental, economic, and social practices and their capacity to create value for their stakeholders. Obtaining these results – in the midst of the difficult situation the world is experiencing – stimulates us to continue to manage our business with ethics and transparency and based on the principle of acting as a Country Partner. That principle moves us to align ourselves with the most urgent needs in our surroundings and leads us to honor our commitment to taking care of the environment and contributing to the development of the regions where we operate," commented Oscar Bravo, President of Organización Terpel.

“We congratulate Organización Terpel for achieving a place in The Sustainability Yearbook 2021. With over 7,000 companies assessed, an inclusion in the yearbook is a true statement of corporate sustainability excellence," commented Manjit Jus, Global Head of ESG Research at S&P Global.

The DJSI, or Dow Jones Sustainability Index, is one of the world’s main indicators monitoring the corporate sustainability performance of leading companies. It was launched in 1999 as a collaboration between the S&P Dow Jones Indexes, the organization in charge of assessing candidates based on the sustainability criteria selected by the index. The DJSI follows a best-in-class approach to select leaders across all industries based on pre-defined sustainability criteria associated with the economic, environmental and social dimensions.
